Karunesh - CALL OF THE MYSTIC

Play Sample

There is a stillness, a point of balance, from which all movement stems, just as there is a place of silence from which all sound emanates.

On Call Of The Mystic, Karunesh has established such a base from which many wondrous instruments and sounds leap into joyful expression.  Beautifully played bells, chimes, Tibetan bowls, sitar, sarod and Chinese instruments, bansuri flute and Indian violin come alive in a symphony of celebration -- an offering, a meditation, a delightfully mystical calling, irresistible to heart and mind.

Artist Bio:

karunesh Karunesh was born in 1956 in Cologne, Germany.  Although he had been drawn to music as a child and played in bands as a teen, he chose to study graphic design as a career.  After attaining his degree, the path did not feel right for him and as sometimes happens when we need to be reminded of a critical need for a change in direction, Karunesh was involved in a serious motorcycle accident.  For two weeks, he was suspended between life and death, and this experience sparked the beginning of his spiritual path.

In 1979 he made his first journey to India and began to follow his heart.  Karunesh later lived in an ashram in Germany for five years.  Here, he had the opportunity to learn from and play together with musicians from cultures around the world.  Music was a vital part of the mystical experience being pursued and where Karunesh (Sanskrit for "compassion") says he developed the ability to weave different styles and feelings together into a living symbiosis - a symbiosis carried by his own very unique and personal "melodies from the heart."

In 1984 Karunesh released his first album Sounds of the Heart, an album that quickly became a classic in the new age genre.  More albums followed.  With 450,000 albums sold to date, Karunesh has become established as one of the best-known artists in the genre.

Review:

Call of the Mystic
Quality Meditation Music
Karunesh continues his explorations of spirituality and Asian mysticism with his third release for Real Music - Call Of The Mystic.   The multi-instrumentalist's flair for melodies that are lightly rhythmic, a tad melancholic and focused on Asian instruments like bansuri flute, tabla and Indian violin once again is showcased with this album of dreamy sonorities.

The album is meant to create an atmosphere conducive to stillness and meditative healing practices.  To that end, it definitely makes you want to sit back, relax and ponder your spirituality for about 50 minutes.  The overall sound and feel of the album is very similar to what you heard on his previous albums for Real Music; no surprises here, just quality meditation music.
