Gabriela Anders - LAST TANGO IN RIO
Play Sample Argentinean jazz chanteuse Gabriela Anders was born into a musical family, and listened closely to her father, jazz saxophonist Jorge Anders while she studied classical guitar and piano in her native Buenos Aires. "There were so many musical influences when I was growing up, I wanted to do something with them — especially tango."
For her new album, Anders returns to her homeland for inspiration and flavoring, as she covers some of the jazz classics made famous by Billie Holiday — including God Bless The Child, among others. "Her work has meant so much to me," says Anders. "No one could sing these beautiful songs better than she did, so I tried a different take by bringing to them a little bit of South America." | Musicians

Artist Bio: Born into a family of musicians, Argentinean chanteuse Gabriela Anders studied classical guitar and piano in Buenos Aires —while listening closely to her father, jazz saxophonist Jorge Anders. "There were so many influences when I was growing up, and I wanted to do something with them all. The music of Brazil had a great affect on me; it's harmonically rich and so interesting melodically."
Her ongoing exposure to music of various sensibilities and her innate ability to fuse styles and formats were abundantly revealed in a few demo tracks she made on the cheap. Shortly thereafter, Anders became one of the only artists ever signed to Warner Brothers from unsolicited material, and WANTING, her 1998 debut, brims with vocal subtlety and evokes a calming, breezy mood. Her unique marriage of pop, Latin, and jazz led to Vogue and People describing Anders and her music as "exotic and bold" and "one of the most distinctive new voices to hit the music scene in years".
