Sky features the beautiful music of composer/pianist, Bill Douglas, and the heart- felt tabla playing of Ty Burhoe (student of tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain). After many years of collaborating, this recording marks their first truly upbeat fusion album. Joining them for this project are the brilliant fretless bass player Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin Trio), and drumming legend, Steve Smith (Journey & Vital Information). Sky is a multi faceted recording, inspiring new musical horizons and represents the first release on Ty’s indie label, Tala Records.

Ty Burhoe's work has been consistently intelligent and sonically impeccable, and Sky, the first release for his new imprint, Tala Records, is no exception. This time around, Burhoe, who also produced the CD, teams with pianist Douglas and two special guests: bassist Kai Eckhardt and drummer Steve Smith, (Yes from the band Journey). "Full Moon," the opener, flirts with new-ageisms, but the playing is too jazzy and inquisitive to fade into the background, and subsequent offerings, including the witty "Vocal Rhythm Etude Medley" and the swinging "Funk for Spain," defy expectations and pigeonholing. Eckhardt's ultra-melodic bass lines make a big impression in this context, and the musicianship throughout the album is Sky high.
